The standard dimensions of artic trailers are 13.6m long, 2.45m wide and between 2.5m and 3m in height. If a peice of cargo is significatly over any of these dimensions it will be considered 'out of gauge.'
There are many things to consider when moving an out of gauge peice of cargo. The type of trailer, road restrictions, police escorts, access to the loading and offloading points, lashing and securing of the cargo etc. etc.
This is often referred to as project shipping. At Westhaven we have the contacts and experience to undertake any kind of out of gauge shipments throughout the world. We have shipped a huge array of unusual cargoes from grain dryers the size of a row of terraced houses to very delicate fibreglass flight simulators.
